What is Hydroponic Gardening?

Hydroponic gardening is a type of gardening where you grow plants without using soil. In hydroponics, plants are grown in water-based solutions. The solutions contain the necessary nutrients for plants to grow and to produce fresh food.

Generally, you grow hydroponic plants directly in the nutrient solution alone. You can also plant in an inert growing medium such as coconut fibers, rockwool, growing rock, etc. These provide a foundation for the plant to grow.

The popularity of Hydroponic Gardening

Hydroponic growing has become not only a popular pastime hobby; it has turned into a lucrative business. When you learn about hydroponic gardening and master the principles you can literally grow any plant you wish with the hydroponic method.

With the use of a hydroponic system, you can easily set up a hydroponic garden or greenhouse inside your house or on the rooftop. When using the hydroponic gardening technique on a large scale, it can become a very productive way to produce crops for commercial.

Nutrient Availability

Unlike growing plants with conventional soil gardening, the roots system of hydroponic plants do not have to search for nutrients and minerals in the soil. The much-needed nutrients and minerals are provided in the nutrient solution, ready to be supplied to the root system.

In hydroponic gardening, oxygen and carbon dioxide are also supplied to the nutrient solution to boost the intake of nutrients by the root systems. This helps to promote a faster growth rate and healthy growth of the plants.

Diseases and Pests

Generally with hydroponics, you will have less problems with plant diseases and pests. As most of the plant diseases and pest issues are associated with the use of soil.

If you are looking for an interesting way of growing your own food at home that has limited issues with pests and or diseases that will produce tons of fresh produce, then hydroponics may be the answer for you!  I encourage you to do some more research and even give it a try.
