Voice & Tone Guidelines
- Be authentic and use your own unique voice.
- Write with your audience in mind and add value to your readers’ lives.
- Use slang and abbreviations sparingly, be clear and concise with your writing.
Content & Style Guidelines
- All submissions must be written and owned by you.
- All submissions must be original content that has not been previously published.
- Please do not double space after periods or between paragraphs.
- Use subheadings – H2 or H3.
- If you include original images they must be high resolution. Send the original image as a JPEG, PNG, or GIF.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Is there a minimum word count?
Word count is flexible, but between 1000-2500 is a good starting point. Articles under 800 words will not be considered.
Do I submit an article idea or a full draft?
Either! We accept story pitches and are willing to work with you on topic creation. To expedite the process and get your article live as quickly as possible you may submit a full draft for us to review.
Do I need to include photos?
Original photography is not required, but if your story could be enhanced with personal photos or free stock images then please include them.
If included, original photography must be high-resolution.
When will I hear back about my submission?
We are constantly reviewing submissions and try to get back to you as soon as possible. You should receive a notification within 1-2 weeks on whether or not your story has been accepted for publication.
How do I submit my story or blog article?
Send an email to writeforus@backyard-eden.com with your story, blog idea or the full story pasted into the body of your email.
If approved, you will be given your own user profile and password to login to the backend of Backyard Eden.
If you are an approved contributor who would like to contribute again, simple log in and provide another post for our review.
Other Important Notes
Include a brief author bio with your submission (social channels and blog hyperlinked, please)
Include an author headshot if desired.
We do not offer compensation for general submissions at this time.
You will hear from us within two weeks if we are able to run your post. Please only submit your idea once and allow us ample time to respond.
